With the Palomar Icon Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) device which is the newest generation of intense pulsed light devices, we are able to treat your pigmentation concerns on the face, hands, neck, décolleté and body. During your IPL treatment or Photofacial, selected wavelengths of light are delivered to the skin, targeting melanin (hyperpigmentation). The outer layer of skin is left intact therefore there is little to no downtime. Patients tolerate IPL treatments very well with mild discomfort, some redness, warmth, swelling, or tightness in the treated area, which usually fades within a few hours of treatment but in rare cases, can last several days. When treating pigmentation (brown/age spots) it can take 7-10 days for the darkened areas (resembling “coffee grounds”) Make-up can be used immediately after treatment to cover any discoloration caused by the procedure.
